Bul Armory SAS II Ultralight 3.25″ Holsters

If you own a Bul Armory SAS II Ultralight 3.25″, you have already found out that leather is hard to come by. Most holster makers work from a stock of molds, and Bul Armory is not on the list. You get offered a generic pouch, a soft nylon sleeve, or nothing at all.

We build to the actual pistol. Every holster we make is wet-molded over a mold of the specific firearm: not a similar one, not a close-enough 1911 pattern. That matters more on this gun than on most, and it is worth explaining why.

What makes the Ultralight different to carry

Bul Armory's SAS II Ultralight 3.25″ is a double-stack 1911-pattern 9mm on an aluminum frame. The numbers that matter for holster work:

Two of those numbers create the whole design problem.

The grip is what prints, not the slide

At 1.47″ wide, the double-stack grip is the fattest part of this pistol by a comfortable margin. And with only a 3.25″ barrel, there is not much slide below it to anchor things.

That combination is the opposite of a full-size 1911, where a long slide sits under a slim grip and the gun tucks itself into your side. On the Ultralight, the mass is high and wide. If a holster does not deal with that deliberately (through ride height, cant, and where the belt attachments sit relative to the grip) the grip rolls away from your body and prints through a shirt.

This is why a generic holster fails on this pistol specifically. Bulk added anywhere near the grip is bulk on the worst possible axis. A holster molded to the real dimensions keeps the leather tight to the gun and adds nothing where you cannot afford it.

Light pistols need different leather

An aluminum frame is a genuine advantage for daily carry. Twenty-two ounces is roughly half what a steel-framed double-stack 2011 weighs, and you notice it by the end of a day.

But light guns behave differently in a holster. A heavy pistol settles a rig by its own weight. It pulls the leather into position and stays put. A 22 oz gun does not have the mass to do that. Overbuild the holster and the rig starts driving the gun rather than the other way around: it shifts as you move, the mouth collapses on the draw, and re-holstering becomes a two-handed job.

The answer is not thinner leather. It is correctly weighted leather, properly molded, with a reinforced mouth that stays open on its own. That way the retention comes from the fit of the mold rather than from clamping the gun with a stiff shell.

Which holster suits this pistol

Inside the waistband. Our Insider IWB is the usual answer for a 3.25″ carry gun. Optics-ready, reinforced mouth, and molded so the grip sits close. This is the configuration most Ultralight owners are after.

Outside the waistband. The SideKick and Classic Pancake both ride high and tight for a short-barreled pistol. If you carry under a jacket or an untucked shirt rather than concealed deep, these are more comfortable across a full day.

Premium hip carry. The Urbanist is our heavier-built hip holster for people who want the rig to outlast the pistol.

All of them are cut for the Ultralight specifically, in your choice of body color, mouth color, thread, and stamp pattern. Left or right hand, and a magazine pouch if you want the reload matched to the rig.

Why molded-to-the-gun actually matters

A holster molded to a different pistol of roughly similar size will hold your gun. It will not hold it well. Retention comes from the leather having been formed around the actual trigger guard, the actual ejection port, the actual profile of that bull barrel, and the Ultralight's is not shaped like a bushed 1911 barrel.

Get that fit right and you do not need a thumb break or a tension screw. The gun clicks in, stays there when you move, and comes out clean when you want it. Get it wrong and you are relying on friction and hope.
